ABOUT BOWLS

The Beginnings

At a special meeting held in 1960 the proposed purchase of land in Rowville to replace the leased golf course at Syndal was discussed. During this meeting a number of older members indicated they would like to go on to Rowville but felt that at their age they did not have many years of golf left. One of the members, Arthur Cheyne, who was a bowler, suggested that if a bowling green could be built at the new site then the move would be more attractive to older members. The committee agreed to implement this idea as soon as it became financially possible.

The land was purchased and the new golf course was opened in December 1962 with eleven holes playable. The eighteen holes were completed in November 1963.

In 1964 interested members commenced work on the bowling green. The green was sown in April 1965 and play commenced in October 1965. The first club championships were played in 1966.

Today

We have two greens acknowledged as amongst the best in the area, and enjoy first class clubhouse facilities adjacent to the golf course.

RVBA pennant competition is conducted on Saturdays, while the VLBA pennant competition is played on Tuesdays. Both pennant competitions run from October to March. There are a host of social and competition events staged for both sections

We pride ourselves as being a friendly and harmonious club. New players are always welcome. We encourage people of all ages and sexes to call and see just what we have to offer.
